Delicious, affordable, high quality, healthy meals every time, delivered to your home! All of our main meals are designed according to the Magic 8 Nutrition Guidelines, and are in line with the Australian Dietary Guidelines.

We are a registered NDIS meal provider, and therefore meet all the criteria for approved supports, including split invoicing that separates out the cost of ingredients from preparation and delivery.

We want to take the guesswork out of healthy eating and remove barriers, giving you choice, control and independence around mealtimes.

Get stuck in!

Once your funding has been confirmed, we will collect your payment details for your co-payment (as little as $2 for a main meal!) and discuss whether you would like a personalised meal plan or place orders independently.

If your NDIS plan is Plan Managed, we will email you our Service Agreement for signature. Once signed, we will forward the Service Agreement to your plan managers.

When we receive written funding confirmation from your plan managers, we will call or email you to finalise the set up of your account.

For Agency Managed participants, we will email you our Service Agreement. Once signed, we should be able to create a service booking through the NDIS portal. When it’s been created, we will call you to finalise the set up of your account.

If your NDIS funding is Self Managed, we can get you started straight away! We won’t need a Service Agreement. We will be able to collect the details we need via phone or email and you can begin ordering.

Co-payment

You’ll hear the word co-pay a lot at Able Foods. This simply means the out of pocket cost you’ll pay for the ingredient component of the meals. 

Your co-payment will be charged to your card or account details on your selected day of the week. We can also offer a fortnightly payment if this works better with your schedule.

Ordering

Ordering is simple with an Able Foods meal plan. Speak with our team who can design a meal plan based on your goals and most importantly your taste preferences. Meal plans take the stress out of ordering and work on a rotating basis, ensuring there is plenty of variety, so you’ll never get bored.

Looking to order independently? You can place orders via our online store or simply give us a call. Make sure you get your order in by our weekly cut off at 5 pm on Wednesdays.

Our minimum order is 7 main meals per delivery, with no additional costs for delivery!

How to access Able Foods through the NDIS

The NDIA has announced that from 3 October 2024, NDIS participants will only be able to use their funding for items that are listed as approved supports. The good news is that, as a registered NDIS provider, Able Foods already meets all the criteria! Learn more on this page.

If funding has been allocated for prepared and delivered meals, you can get started without the need for a quote under line item 01_023_0120_1_1.

If meal preparation and delivery support are essential for the participant but are not explicitly mentioned in their NDIS plan but you believe it is “reasonable and necessary,” you can contact the Local Area Coordinator (LAC) or Planner directly.

They can write an email stating that core support can be used flexibly for meal preparation and delivery. This will then allow Able Foods or the plan manager to use the line item: 01_023_0120_1_1

Meal Preparation and Delivery stated

A quote will still need to be submitted to the NDIA for approval to use the allocated funding under meal preparation and delivery under 01_022_0120_1_1.

Able Foods will provide this quote based on your requirements.

* When using your core support budget without funding for prepared and delivered meals allocated, you will need to ensure you are managing spending appropriately.

NDIS FAQ's

Yes, you only have to pay a small out-of-pocket fee for the cost of ingredients:

  • Breakfast: $1.80
  • Small lunches, soups & sandwiches: $1.00 – $2.00
  • Smoothies & juices: $0.70 – $1.50
  • Main meal: $2.00-$3.50
  • Extras: $0.50-$1.00
  • Desserts: $0.70 – $1.00

The cost of meal preparation and delivery is subsidised through the NDIS or Support at Home (formerly Home Care Package).

The NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme. The NDIS supports people with a permanent and significant disability that affects their ability to take part in everyday activities. You can read more about the NDIS here.

Able Foods doesn’t have a lock in contract. You’re free to leave at any time, but we’re sure you won’t want to!

If your NDIS plan is agency or plan managed, we will need a Service Agreement signed in order to use our services. This Service Agreement simply allows us access to this portion of your NDIS funding, but it isn’t locked in and can be cancelled at any time with 7 days notice.

You can use Able Foods with your NDIS funding

Yes. As a registered NDIS provider, we already meet all the criteria for approved supports and you can continue to order meals as normal, with no interruption to your services. 

The recently updated policy guidelines state that from 3rd October 2024 the NDIS will fund meal preparation and delivery as a support that helps participants increase their ability to live as independently as possible, but it will not fund groceries, fast food services, takeaway food and food delivery platforms excluding those meal delivery platforms “where the food and ingredient component can be separately identified from the meal preparation and delivery component.”

At Able Foods, our invoices already clearly set apart the costs of ingredients from the costs of meal preparation and delivery. So, we can continue to provide you with worry-free meals!

NDIS funding

  1. Fill in the Get Started form or give us a call so we can collect your information over the phone. Make sure you have your NDIS plan handy.
  2. Sit tight while our Client Engagement team works in the background to confirm your funding.
  3. Once funding is confirmed, we will be in touch with you to (1) collect delivery instructions and payment details for the out-of-pocket cost and (2) walk you through the ordering process.

If you’re plan managed:

  • When you order from us, you only pay for the cost of ingredients upfront (also referred to as the ‘co-payment’), and the rest is covered by the NDIS.
  • We conveniently split the invoice into two: You or your designated invoice recipient will receive an invoice for the co-payment. Meanwhile, the cost meal preparation and delivery will be charged directly to your NDIS plan.

If you’re self-managed:

  • You will pay in full upfront, then claim the NDIS portion of the price on the NDIA portal. We still send a split invoice to make it easy to claim from the NDIS.

Not a problem. We can direct invoices to your plan manager once your account is set up with us.

Depending on your disability, the NDIS may fund the cost of a support worker to help with meal preparation and/or delivery of pre-prepared meals.

The NDIS only covers day-to-day living costs related to your disability support needs. The NDIS doesn’t fund the cost of ingredients, because food is considered a day-to-day living cost rather than a disability-related support.

An NDIS plan only covers services for the individual whose plan it is. That means the NDIS will not fund meals for an entire family through one NDIS plan.

We want everyone to be able to enjoy our delicious food, so we do offer companion meals for anyone in your circle of care at a discounted rate, so you can still share a meal together! Companion meals can be ordered over the phone or added to meal plans.
