Adding snacks to the menu is no small feat at Able Foods. Nutrition panels are inspected with an eagle eye, so we’re sure that when we bring you more options, they’re all equal parts healthy and tasty.
So we were thrilled when we brought Harvest Box on deck! For the last 10 years, the Victoria-based snack company has been building on their passion for simple, healthier options, and they’re dreaming up new snacks all the time.
In this article, the Harvest Box team tells us more about the values behind their business and what they love about working with Able Foods.
Why does Harvest Box think it’s important to give people healthy snack options?
At Harvest Box, we aim to assist Australians improve their dietary behaviours. In December 2023, the ABS reported that only 4.3% of adults in Australia met both the fruit and vegetable recommendations for a balanced diet. We want to help improve that statistic!
We strive to provide nutritious and affordable snacks without compromising taste and quality. We hope this encourages our customers to consume nourishing foods to optimise their health and wellbeing.
More and more snacks are marketing themselves as healthy–What makes Harvest Box different?
We take careful time to find suppliers who offer ingredients of the highest quality and embed sustainability into their business operations. The quality of the ingredients in our products significantly impacts the customer experience. We use whole ingredients to maintain the nutrition and to avoid over-processed foods, so our snacks are just as nature intended.
You keep your environmental footprint top of mind, setting a target for 85% of your packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025. This can be difficult in the food industry! Can you tell us more about how you’re doing this?
Our priority is to maintain the product at its best quality when it is packaged. We’re currently working with our suppliers to ensure we meet our social responsibilities and the 2025 National Packaging targets, which you can learn more about here. That means we’re constantly reviewing how we can minimise waste and work towards a circular economy.
At Able Foods, we love working with suppliers who care deeply about the communities and food systems that we’re a part of. Can you tell us more about The Grounded Farmer Initiative and what it involves?
The Grounded Farmer Initiative is our ongoing mission to create a healthy and sustainable food system to support our farmers, our communities, and our planet. We understand that these elements are paramount to achieving our objectives.
To support our planet, we continue to review our business operations, identify areas of weakness, and implement strategies to have a more positive outcome for the environment. We take great pride in sourcing natural ingredients. We only work with suppliers who have sustainability at heart!
To support our farmers, we collaborate with smallholder farmers to strengthen the income of local communities. We always ensure that our supply chain supports farmers who prioritise both sustainability and quality.
To support our community, we collaborate with not-for-profit organisations to address social and environmental challenges. For example, we worked with a charity called Rosie’s – Friends on the Street, and we supplied some of our products to assist homeless communities.
