There are all sorts of people here at Able Foods. Our team members are from many different countries and cultures, and we vary broadly in age. We work across three different cities and, the last time we checked, there were more than 10 different languages spoken across the company!
This diversity is something we value greatly, and we believe it’s what makes us such a great, compassionate team.
Cultural diversity at work
Cultural diversity is the presence of diverse groups within our society, who differ in race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, upbringing and more. In bringing together diverse people, we strive to celebrate their many different lifestyles, values, and beliefs, and foster an inclusive environment where people feel respected and empowered.
Able Foods acknowledges the many benefits of embracing cultural diversity in the workplace. It helps us broaden our cultural awareness and improves our ability to grow and develop new ideas, viewpoints and approaches. By doing this, we’re able to break down cultural barriers not just between colleagues, but with our customers too.
Doing right by our customers is always at the forefront of what we do. Our huge menu of over 80 meals (with an ever increasing range of international dishes!) is made possible through the team’s appreciation of other culinary cultures.
Whether it’s a Classic Chicken Schnitzel, a Thai Yellow Curry, or a Mediterranean Veggie Pasta, Able Foods is all about making you feel like you’re having a home cooked meal–whatever that looks like for you.
The importance of culturally appropriate food
At Able Foods, we of course value the direct link that food has to improving physical and mental wellbeing. But beyond that, we also understand the importance of providing culturally appropriate food: That is, nutritious, delicious food that meets the diverse tastes and needs of our customers based on their cultural identity.
We want you to be able to enjoy familiar meals that make you feel at home. Whether it’s a Classic Chicken Schnitzel, a Thai Yellow Curry, or a Mediterranean Veggie Pasta, Able Foods is all about making you feel like you’re having a home cooked meal–whatever that looks like for you.
When you eat food that you not only need but also enjoy, it builds a positive food culture that nurtures good health and wellbeing. It’s our hope that, by being able to access healthy, comforting meals, our customers are able to take control of their health and feed their abilities.
Celebrating cultural diversity at Able Foods
While caring for our customers is top of mind, the team culture at Able Foods is also something we’re very proud of. We foster an open and welcoming environment for team members to share personal stories, and we encourage sharing cultural celebrations with the rest of the team.
We’ve had team potlucks featuring food from Mexico, the Philippines, America, and more! In a team of so many different people, our differences are what make our contributions unique.
Our plan of action to bring you more international meals
In late 2023, we conducted a customer feedback survey to hear about how we could improve our food and services. The findings highlighted high customer demand for more international meals and a diversified menu–and we’ve taken that feedback to heart!
We’ve since spent countless hours brainstorming how we can bring more international meals into our menu, while still staying true to our Magic 8 Nutrition Guidelines.
Our Autumn 2024 menu launched featured beef chilli con carne, Italian tuna pasta, pork & apple casserole, Spanish tomato & chickpea stew, and chicken & apricot tagine.
As a direct result of your feedback, our menu has grown to include Beef Chilli con Carne, Chicken & Apricot Tagine, Butter Chicken, Beef Kofta & Brown Rice Salad, Spanish Tomato & Chickpea Stew–with so many more in mind!
If there are meals you would like to see on our menu, we’re all ears! While it’s not always possible, we do our best to take client feedback into our menu planning. Let us know what you think through our contact form.
